Becca's Pick
Cornfield Chase (from Interstellar), Hans Zimmer (feat. Phillip Keveren)
The film Interstellar was released 10 years ago, and this particular track is the most popular from that film. I'm a huge fan of anything arranged by Phillip Keveren, and this arrangement does not disappoint.
Jill's Pick
The Rainbow Connection, Kermit the Frog
With the recent release of Jim Henson: Idea Man I've been inspired to rewatch a few of my favorite Muppet classics. The Muppets were a big part of my childhood and still resonate, decades later. I'm not ashamed to admit that "The Rainbow Connection" makes me a little teary-eyed as a grown-up!
Annie's Pick
Under Construction (from The Sims), Jerry Martin
As a kid, I played hours and hours of The Sims, and this "Under Construction" theme is my favorite piece from the soundtrack — it's so beautiful! It's not an easy piece and requires a lot of hand independence, but for any Sims lovers out there, it would be very rewarding, nostalgic piece to learn.
Sam's Pick
Smooth, Santana (feat. Rob Thomas)
To my shock, I saw that Santana's summer bop "Smooth" is 25 years old this week! In my days as a gigging musician, this was always one of my favorites to play — not many chords to remember, upbeat, and gets people singing along — a good combo!
Joe's Pick
Not a Day Goes By (from Merrily We Roll Along), Stephen Sondheim
2023 saw the first successful Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along, Stephen Sondheim's 1981 musical that didn't quite go down well enough in its original run to have the same lasting effect of his hits. This is a shame because there are some beautiful, exciting, and quite daring songs in it. "Not A Day Goes By" is a heartbreaking ballad which includes all of the trademark harmonic complexity and lyrical deftness that us Sondheim-heads know and love.
Jacklyn's Pick
Harry in Winter (from Harry Potter), Patrick Doyle
When I hear this composition, I dream of a beautiful winter wonderland. The temperature in Tennessee these days is getting to be uncomfortably hot and humid, and it makes me miss the beautiful season of winter. Composed by Patrick Doyle, it captures the winter scenes of the 4th movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This is one of my favorites as it has a lot of romantic and somber feeling to it.
