Staff Picks: April 2026

Our Sheet Music Direct team plays, strums and sings just as much as you do! We're a team of musicians who love music of various styles and, when we're not busy with all things Sheet Music Direct, play at home, church, and gigs. Each month, we're sharing some of the favorite songs we're currently playing and why we think you'll love them too. Sam's Pick
When You're in Love (from Maybe Happy Ending), Hue Park & Will Aronson
I was lucky enough to chat to Maybe Happy Ending co-creator Will Aronson (check it out here) and it gave me a deeper appreciation for the songs in the musical, a particular highlight being the charming duet "When You're in Love" — a beautiful song and moment from the show.
Mysha's Pick
Aperture, Harry Styles
This type of electronic sound isn't usually my thing, and this is quite different from what I've heard from Harry Styles before - but "Aperture" crept up on me after a few listens and watching the BRIT Awards performance on TV. It also holds up really nicely when you strip it back and just play it on guitar or piano, which I wasn't expecting!
Annie's Pick
Severance - Main Title Theme, Theodore Shapiro
I recently finished watching both seasons of Severance — what a crazy, amazing show! I love Theodore Shapiro's piano score throughout the series, especially the use of minor 2nds. This main title theme features a chromatic melody and haunting chords, all over the constant C pedal tone, drawing you into the mystery of show's plot.
Jack's Pick
It's All Over Now, Baby Blue, Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan has remained inscrutable well into his old age, but even I was surprised when he shared his Patreon this week. The collection contains poetic Americana as you might expect. But — perhaps alarmingly from a Nobel Laureate — there are some AI creations too! Still, the news got me thinking about the different eras of Dylan, and my favourite Dylan track. For me it has to be "It's All Over Now Baby Blue," a perfect break up song, tinged with sadness, anger and acceptance all at once. It's amazing what he could do with a few chords and his lyrical talent.
Jill's Pick
How to Save a Life, The Fray
I was recently shocked to learn that "How to Save a Life" celebrated its 20th anniversary! Like every other woman of my generation, I first heard it on an episode of Grey's Anatomy. It exploded and became inescapable on the radio and in retail spaces, but I'm pleased to say I have enough distance from it now to very much enjoy the nostalgia when I hear it now.
Jacklyn's Pick
Leaving Hogwarts (from Harry Potter), John Williams
"Leaving Hogwarts" always gets me. Growing up, Harry Potter was such a big part of my life. The books, the movies, watching the cast grow up at the same time we were. With all the talk about the new TV series, it's been bringing that feeling back again. This piece just captures that bittersweet sense of leaving something behind that meant so much, but never really letting it go.
