Bill's Pick
Psycho (Prelude), Bernard Herrmann
One of the key elements in building suspense in movies is the music, and Bernard Herrmann's score to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho is a true testament to this fact. With the opening title (prelude) theme, Hitchcock and Hermann's combined talents create a tension-filled introduction to what has become one of the most-loved thrillers of all-time. Our piano solo arrangement takes this orchestral theme and deconstructs it down to its core fundamentals, creating a fun, but threateningly beautiful piece perfect for this spooky season.
Laura's Pick
The Great Pumpkin Waltz, Vince Guaraldi
The weather is getting colder, which means the Charlie Brown specials that mark the passing of the holidays are around the corner! Vince Guaraldi's "The Great Pumpkin Waltz" is incredibly gorgeous and nostalgic. On top of the piano melody being beautiful, the flute that accompanies the piano is so lovely.
Sam's Pick
No Time To Die (arr. Mark Brymer), Billie Eilish
New James Bond movie No Time To Die is the hottest film in theaters right now, so what better song for your choir to learn this month than Billie Eilish's brooding theme song. Mark Brymer's choral arrangement, available for SATB, SAB and SSA choirs really captures the mood of Eilish's chart-topper.
Dan's Pick
The Avengers, Alan Silvestri
When a new Marvel movie comes out (such as Black Widow on Disney+), I usually spend the next few weeks listening to Alan Silvestri's incredible Avengers scores. And while the Hal Leonard Piano Solo version is great, ensembles are where this piece really shines. There are quite a few to choose from, but Michael Brown's arrangements for Marching Band and Concert Band are definitely my favorites.
Annie's Pick
Eye of the Tiger, The Piano Guys
The Piano Guys recently released a hauntingly-beautiful lullaby arrangement of "Eye Of The Tiger," arranged by Jon Schmidt. I love the running eighth notes throughout the piece, as well as the syncopation pattern that is used in the left-hand. I'm looking forward to more arrangements like this in their upcoming album, Lullaby.
Becca's Pick
Right On Time, Brandi Carlile
"Right On Time" is the first single off Brandi Carlile's new 2021 album, and is a gorgeous, powerful slow-building piano ballad. The rest of the songs from her recent album In These Silent Days are equally captivating.
