Bruce's Pick
Just Pretend, Elvis Presley

I'm an Elvis guy, so with the new Baz Luhrmann Elvis biopic coming out this month, my Staff Pick was a no-brainer. Now, when I say I'm an Elvis guy, I mean, I can hear a recording and tell you it was from the August 10th 1970 midnight performance in Las Vegas or that a particular jumpsuit is from 1974. "Just Pretend" was recorded and introduced in the summer of 1970 when Elvis began his Vegas residency. It's a beautiful melancholic number that's a little bit country, a little bit R&B, and therefore a lotta bit the kind of song Elvis loved to deliver during this era. I'm really hoping to hear a cover of it in the new film, but until then, I'll have to just pretend…

Bill's Pick
Running Up That Hill, Kate Bush

Even though it was first released nearly 40 years ago, Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" has seen a resurgence due to being featured prominently in the latest season of Netflix's Stranger Things. So if you missed it back in 1985, now's the perfect time to discover it yourself and add it to your repertoire.

Becca's Pick
Danger Zone, Kenny Loggins

Featured in the 1986 film Top Gun, "Danger Zone" was written specifically for the movie, and was offered to a few other artists before being recorded by none other than Kenny Loggins. This song went on to reach #2 in the charts (behind Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer"), and become Loggins' second-biggest chart hit (behind "Footloose").

Annie's Pick
Welcome to Jurassic Park, John Williams

Ahead of the release of Jurassic Park: Dominion on Friday, an official Piano Solo arrangement of John Williams' "Welcome To Jurassic Park" has just been added to Sheet Music Direct this past week. What I love most about this arrangement is all of the different musical textures and left hand accompaniment patterns that are used throughout.

Laura's Pick
About Damn Time, Lizzo

Lizzo's infectious new single "About Damn Time" has her trademark positivity and optimism on full display with a retro quality sound, like previous songs of hers like "Juice" or "Good As Hell." My favorite part is the flute riff in the second half of the tune. It is catchy and breezy and makes you want to do a little dance.

Sam's Pick
Life Is Sweet - Piano Suite, Rachel Portman

Following on from the release of "Emma - Piano Suite" earlier this year, English composer Rachel Portman has recently released "Life Is Sweet - Piano Suite" – based on themes from her original score to the 1990 comedy-drama of the same name. Its beauty is in its simplicity, and it's a real joy to play.
