Staff Picks: June 2023
Our Sheet Music Direct team plays, strums and sings just as much as you do! We're a team of musicians who love music of various styles and, when we're not busy with all things Sheet Music Direct, play at home, church, and gigs. Each month, we're sharing some of the favorite songs we're currently playing and why we think you'll love them too. Dan's Pick
You All Over Me (feat. Maren Morris) (Taylor's Version) (from The Vault), Taylor Swift
My wife and I had the opportunity to see Taylor Swift live in Chicago last weekend for her Eras Tour. It was an impressive three-hour show featuring 44 of her songs with a special themed set for each of her albums. Plus, a surprise guest appearance by Maren Morris to co-perform "You All Over Me." The country ballad duet was written originally for her 2008 album Fearless, but didn't make the cut until Swift released "Taylor’s Version" off the album in 2021.

Bennie and the Jets, Elton John
My staff pick for this month is this piano solo arrangement of Elton John's 1974 hit, "Bennie and the Jets". I love the hard-hitting, spaced out beats of the piano intro and interludes. This arrangement also includes the full jazzy piano solo section in the middle of the song.
Mark's Pick
Don't Stop Me Now, Queen
Thanks to a very recent release by a popular video game company, Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now", as it turns out, is not only fun to perform with piano and guitar, but with a saber!
Sam's Pick
It Must Have Been Love, Roxette
Roxette are one of many Swedish acts with a knack for writing great pop tunes, and my personal favorite is their 1987 hit, "It Must Have Been Love." Like many of my favorite songs, it features a piano solo which is not too hard to master on the keys, and what power ballad is complete without a key change?!

Successful, Ariana Grande
This is such a fun tune to play and groove to. Ariana always has such positive energy in her music and you surely feel it performing this piece. A perfect song for learning ad-lib improvisation, and a great chance to belt it out!

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John
With a gorgeous melody and beautiful lyrics, Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is still going strong 50 years after its release. Many artists have covered this popular tune, including Sara Bareilles, Hunter Hayes, Keane, Aqualung, and The King's Singers.

It's great to see Taylor releasing "Taylor's Version" of her older songs. "You All Over Me" is a beautiful country ballad, and having Maren Morris join her for a special performance must have been magical. I can't wait to get my hands on the sheet music for this song and try it out myself.
