Sam's Pick
Witness Me, Jacob Collier (feat. Shawn Mendes, Stormzy & Kirk Franklin)
I've been on a bit of a Jacob Collier kick lately, who I genuinely believe is one of the most talented musicians of our generation, and I'm a particular fan of "Witness Me" from his latest album, Djesse Vol. 4. As someone who used to sing in a gospel choir, I love the gospel element of this song, and I just find the song and video so wholesome and uplifting.
Jill's Pick
Linger, The Cranberries
Like everything else from the 90's, The Cranberries are having a moment lately with lots of people sharing their harmonizations of "Linger" on TikTok. I've been revisiting their music and am happy to say it holds up!
Jacklyn's Pick
The Dreame (from Sense and Sensibility), Patrick Doyle
I recently watched Ang Lee's film Sense and Sensibility, which I would categorize as my go-to comfort movie if I'm wanting to watch some British romance. There's nothing quite like it with a cast that includes Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, and Hugh Grant. I would say that everything from this soundtrack album is brilliant as Patrick Doyle does a wonderful job creating imagery of sadness, romance, and unrequited love. But if I were to pick one favorite - it would be "The Dreame." I found the piano sheet music for this many years ago, and once I perfected it, it became one of the songs in my very small piano repertoire as I still consider myself an amateur pianist.
Amy's Pick
Come What May, Nicole Kidman & Ewan McGregor (arr. Theodore Hicks)
September means Back To School...and for choir kids of all ages it means getting your hands on new music for the season! This epic love anthem was first featured in the 2001 film version of Moulin Rouge and is a stunning concert closer for a school or community ensemble ready for an a cappella adventure. Solo opportunities, lush harmonies, and a gorgeous musical arc - it's all there!
Annie's Pick
Which Of The Pickwick Triplets Did It? (from Only Murders In The Building: Season 3), Steve Martin
Pasek & Paul just achieved EGOT status this past weekend with their Emmy win for "Which Of The Pickwick Triplets Did It?" from Hulu's Only Murders In The Building, written in partnership with fellow broadway/film composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Hilariously and perfectly performed by Steve Martin, my favorite aspects of this song are the cleverly written lyrics and comedic timing of the music.
Becca's Pick
Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen
I know it's hard to believe, but this song turns 50 years old next year! "Born To Run" turned out to be one of Bruce Springsteen's biggest hits, and is the song that is played at most every single live show of his. This song has been one of my favorite songs to play in our cover band, as the crowd is equally appreciative of the energy this song brings. The Boss turns 75 this month, but shows no signs of slowing down.
